Ranchi, March 14 (HS). Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda laid the foundation stone of the country's fifth and eastern region's first state-of-the-art Large Honey Testing Laboratory, Integrated Beekeeping Development Centre, Bamboo Cultivation Project and other projects in Ranchi on Thursday.
On the occasion, Arjun Munda said that honey was never exported from this area even though it is a big area for honey production. The area has great potential for honey production, which should be utilized to increase the income of farmers. About 30 percent of the region's land is covered with forest, which has abundant crops, fruits, vegetables and wild trees, which are the most important resources for honey production.
Honey production is increasing in the country and its export is also increasing. Honey testing laboratories will help ensure the quality of honey produced. Bee box manufacturing units will help in increasing honey production. The trading, branding and marketing units will help in promoting the sale of honey domestically and internationally. It will also benefit beekeepers and farmers and Jharkhand will become the hub of sweet revolution.
Munda said that there was a shortage of food grains in the country between 1940 and 1960. After this, Green Revolution came and then food production increased in the country. Production increased but soil erosion also occurred. After the year 2013, we have become alert in many matters, including soil health and environment. Man has to move forward without harming the soil while creating a relationship with nature. Bamboo Mission Project is also starting in the area.
Munda said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government has always kept agriculture and allied sectors and farmers on priority in the country. Understanding that India is a country of farmers, the Central Government is working with guarantees. He said that the country should become ideal in every aspect, with everyone's efforts India should become a developed nation by 2047, work is being done rapidly in this direction.
A large number of farmers and beekeepers participated in the program. Various institutions including National Beekeeping and Honey Mission and Agricultural Science Center – Khunti, Ranchi, Gumla, Simdega, Seraikela, West Singhbhum participated. Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, Padmashree Ashok Bhagat, BAU Vice Chancellor Dr. SC Dubey, Director Dr. Abhijeet Kar, Dr. Sujay Rakshit, Khadi and Village Industries officials and public representatives and dignitaries were also present.
