Jharkhand Weather Forecast: Heavy rains stop in Jharkhand, but yellow alert for thunder and lightning continues till October 4

After the continuous heavy rains in Jharkhand for the last few days, there has been a reduction in the intensity of the weather. Due to continuous rains in many areas including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Daltonganj in the past few days, normal life was disrupted, low lying areas were flooded and the water level of rivers rose rapidly. Now due to weakening of the system, the pressure of heavy rain has reduced and the game of sun and shade has started. However, according to the Meteorological Center (IMD Ranchi), this cannot be considered as a permanent end to the rains, rather it is only a temporary break or ‘interval’. Due to moisture present in the atmosphere and local trough, there will be movement of clouds with thunderstorms in different parts of the state till October 4.

According to the latest bulletin of the Meteorological Department, there is no major red or orange alert for heavy rain, but a yellow alert has been issued till October 4 regarding thunder and lightning. On September 29 and 30, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and strong winds at the speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in central Jharkhand (Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Bokaro) and southern part (Kolhan division – East and West Singhbhum, Seraikela) due to local cloud formation. On October 2 and 3, there is a possibility of increased cloud activity and heavy rain at isolated places in Santal Pargana (Devghar, Dumka, Godda, Sahibganj) and north-eastern districts.

The capital Ranchi and surrounding areas are expected to have light to moderate clouds throughout the day with intermittent sunshine. Due to slowing down of rains, a slight increase in day temperature may be recorded, due to which the humid heat may bother people. The maximum temperature in Ranchi is expected to be around 29 to 30 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be around 21 to 22 degrees Celsius. However, due to the formation of local convective clouds in the evening, the possibility of sudden heavy showers in the outer parts of the city cannot be ruled out.

The reduction in continuous rains has brought great relief to those farmers whose paddy and kharif vegetable crops were in danger of being damaged due to water logging in their fields. Agricultural scientists have advised farmers to ensure drainage of excess water from the fields and spray pesticides or fertilizers only when the weather is clear. Also, the Meteorological Department has issued a special warning regarding lightning (thunderstorm). During bad weather, strong thunder or lightning, people working in fields, cattle herders and passers-by should avoid taking shelter in open fields or under tall trees and immediately move to a permanent house or safe place.
