Jharkhand High Court strict on helplessness in collecting important evidence, SP summoned on November 4

Jharkhand High Court has expressed deep displeasure over the functioning of the police investigation in the Sandeep Pramanik Murder Case of the famous DJ Sandeep Pramanik of the capital Ranchi. Making a sharp comment on the negligence in collecting important evidence and links during the hearing of the case, the court has given strict orders to the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the concerned district to appear in person in the court on November 4. After the strictness of the court in this high-profile criminal case, there has been a stir in the police department, and once again discussions have intensified in political and legal circles on the investigation and legal action of this entire episode.

The lower court had earlier given its verdict in the murder case of Sandeep Pramanik, originally from West Bengal and working as a DJ operator in a popular bar in Ranchi. An appeal petition has been filed by the convicts in the Jharkhand High Court regarding the sentence awarded to some accused by the lower court and other aspects. When the division bench of the High Court was reviewing the case file and the documents produced by the police, the court noticed important shortcomings and weak evidence missed during the police investigation. The court believes that in a serious case like murder, such weakening of evidence can affect the justice process.

During the hearing, the High Court clearly underlined that serious lapses had been made at the level of researchers in collecting scientific and solid evidence which was required to get to the bottom of this sensational incident. Expressing displeasure over the breakdown of links between witness statements and technical evidence, the court said the law has a long arm and precise investigation of each and every aspect is necessary to ensure justice. Keeping this in mind, the court has summoned the concerned SP so that it can be clarified as to why important evidence was ignored during the initial investigation.

This whole incident has once again deepened the hope of the family members of deceased Sandeep Pramanik to get justice. The eyes of the family and the general public are now fixed on the hearing to be held on November 4, where the police administration will have to present its report before the court. Legal experts believe that this tough stance of the High Court has given a strong message to the police agencies across the state that no laxity or carelessness will be tolerated in the investigation of criminal cases, and the courts will thoroughly review every minute point in the interest of justice.
