Jharkhand High Court seeks details of serious crimes from the state government in the hearing of gang rape case of female tourist in Dumka

Ranchi, April 2 (HS). The hearing of the court's suo motu cognizance in the case of gang rape of a female tourist in Dumka was held in the Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday. During the hearing, the draft of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) made by the Jharkhand government for foreign tourists was presented before the court, on which the division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice S Chandrashekhar decided to improve the law and order in the state. While giving instructions, information has been sought from the state government regarding serious crimes like violence against women, land grabbing by land mafia, extortion etc. in the state within the last one month.

The court has scheduled the next hearing of the case on April 4. Earlier, while presenting the draft of SOP to be made for foreign tourists by the state government, it was told that two helpline numbers 112 and 181 have been made for the safety of foreign tourists and common people. There is also an app of 112, which also has an SOS button to get immediate service. Helpline number 181 has been set up for foreign tourists. In the SOP, it is mandatory for foreign tourists to inform Jharkhand Police before going to an unknown place.

If foreign tourists come to India for more than 180 days, they have to register with FRRO. While entering Jharkhand, foreign tourists will have to give information about themselves to the police at the check point, so that the police can give them guidance regarding where they can go and where they cannot go. Besides, proper security will also be provided for them.

This year, an incident of gang rape of a Spanish woman was carried out in Hansdiha police station area of ​​Dumka. The High Court has taken cognizance of this matter.
