Ranchi, June 26 (HS). During the hearing on Wednesday, the Jharkhand High Court said that the state government should ensure that bars and restaurants do not remain open after 12:00 midnight under any circumstances. During the hearing, the state government told the court that a police team has been formed which will keep an eye on bars and restaurants. The next hearing of the case will be on July 9.
The government also told the court that the closing and opening hours of bars and restaurants operating in Ranchi city will be presented before the court. The court verbally said that the government's affidavit regarding police action against opium, hashish and marijuana should not mislead the court.
The court said that the number of bars and restaurants in Ranchi city is increasing day by day. There are many among them that have not taken license and there is provision for drinking alcohol. Strict action should be taken against them. Police should not take the campaign to stop drug addiction as just a gimmick. Keeping social responsibility in mind, campaigns should be run for drug elimination.
The court said that many restaurants are open in Lalpur, Doranda, around Birsa Chowk, Tupudana in the capital Ranchi, where people consume alcohol at night. These restaurants have liquor without license. The advocate of Narcotics Crime Bureau said that through satellite mapping, information was given to the police about many opium cultivations, which were demolished by the police.
