Ranchi, June 17 (HS). Jharkhand High Court said in its order during the hearing on Monday that no person should force or pressurize GST officers to give statements after office hours. The court also directed the GST officers to call a person for questioning only by following the instructions of the GST Commissioner and under the provisions contained in the law.

A division bench of High Court's Acting Chief Justice S Chandrashekhar and Justice Navneet Kumar emphasized that the competent officer under the GST rules should not force any person to give a statement after office hours. During his arguments, the counsel for the petitioner argued that the statement of any officer should be recorded only during office hours.

Actually, GST officials had called Shiv Kumar Devda of Jamshedpur to record his statement. He had already been questioned once, which took a lot of time. According to the petitioner, he was questioned till late night and was called again for questioning. After this, he filed a petition in the High Court demanding that he be called for questioning only during office hours.
