Jharkhand High Court asked whether the repair work of four canal systems of Chandan Dam in the state has been completed or not

Ranchi, March 6 (HS). The hearing of the PIL filed by MP Nishikant Dubey regarding providing adequate water to Jharkhand for irrigation from Bihar's Banka Chandan Dam was held in the Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday. In this case, the court has asked the Jharkhand government whether the repair work of the four canal systems falling under its share has been completed or not. The court has directed the Jharkhand government to provide its updated information.

A division bench headed by Justice Rangan Mukhopadhyay has scheduled the next hearing of the case for March 14. Advocate Diwakar Upadhyay appeared on behalf of the petitioner.

Bihar government has expressed its inability to provide water to Jharkhand from Chandan Dam. Jharkhand government says that it should get water from this dam, so that irrigation can be done in Godda. In the earlier hearing, the court was told that there are 6 canal systems in Chandan Dam, out of which four canal systems are in Jharkhand and two are in Bihar. This structure has been damaged, which needs to be repaired so that water can be available for irrigation in Godda district.
