American automaker Jeep has presented a special gift in India for the lovers of premium off-roading and luxury SUVs, but even before the celebration of its official launch has started, this car has created a sensation in the market. All 25 units of the new limited edition ‘Wrangler Rubicon Whitecap Edition’ of Jeep India’s most popular and most powerful off-roader SUV Wrangler have been completely sold out even before its launch. The company had allocated only 25 cars of this exclusive edition for the Indian market, and as soon as the pre-booking window opened, customers booked all the units in the blink of an eye. This tremendous demand has proved that there is no dearth of lovers of exclusive and hardcore off-roading cars in India.
Talking about the price, Jeep has fixed the ex-showroom price of Wrangler Rubicon Whitecap Edition at ₹ 73.55 lakh. This price is slightly higher than the standard Wrangler Rubicon, but this is due to its rarity, limited quota of 25 units and the unique retro styling elements given in it. For Jeep lovers, this car is no less than a collector’s edition, because only 25 people in the entire country will have the keys of this special model. The company has also indicated that if there is huge enthusiasm from the customers in the future then they may consider a new lot of such special editions, but for now this car is completely ‘out of stock’.
In terms of design, the Wrangler Rubicon Whitecap Edition is inspired by the classic vintage Jeep model CJ-Universal. This vehicle has been finished in a special vibrant ‘Mojito Green’ exterior paint shade. Along with this bold look of green color, its hardtop roof has been given a contrasting ‘Arctic White’ finish. White touch has also been given on the iconic 7-slot grille at its front, which makes its front look very attractive. Apart from this, special graphics of ‘1941’ have been installed on the side panels of the vehicle, which reminds of the historic year when the original Willys MB Jeep made its debut in the world. The body-coloured fenders and the white ‘4 Wheel Drive’ retro badge on the tailgate make it stand out from the crowd.
As rough and tough and classic as it looks from outside, this SUV is equally modern and premium from inside. The cabin features black leather upholstery with contrast stitching. A large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system is provided in the center of the dashboard, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is a 7-inch fully digital instrument cluster for the driver. The front seats are 12-way electrically adjustable. For music lovers, it has been provided with a 9-speaker Alpine premium audio system and integrated subwoofer. In terms of safety, features of 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist and modern driver assistance system (ADAS) have been included in the vehicle.
Talking about performance, under the bonnet of the Whitecap Edition is Jeep’s tried and trusted 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. This powerful engine generates maximum power of 272 horsepower (hp) and peak torque of 400 Nm. This engine is paired with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, which supplies power to all four wheels. Being based on the Rubicon trim, it comes with a Rock-Trac 4×4 system, heavy-duty Dana 44 axles, electronic front sway bar disconnect and Tru-Lock front and rear locking differentials. To cross rocky roads, mud, sand and water filled rivers, it comes with 17-inch alloy wheels with large off-road all-terrain tires and rock rails.
The trend of limited edition cars has increased rapidly in the luxury automobile market of India in recent times. While on one hand companies like Mercedes, BMW and Porsche bring their special editions, on the other hand Jeep Wrangler has its own dominance in the hardcore off-roading segment. With a quota of only 25 units, the vehicle became a status symbol among car collectors and aristocrats who loved off-road adventures. This was the reason that despite the hefty price tag of ₹73.55 lakh, all 25 vehicles were booked by customers even before the vehicles reached the showroom and the formal deliveries began.
