Patna: Unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle shot dead a Janata Dal (United) leader in Punpun area of Patna district on Wednesday night, police said in a statement.
Patna SDPO Kanhaiya Singh told journalists that the deceased has been identified as Saurav Kumar. Another person present with him, Munmun Kumar, was injured in the firing and his condition is said to be critical. He told that the incident took place at 12.15 pm on Wednesday when Saurav and Munmun were attending a wedding ceremony from Parsa Bazaar in Punpun area. .were returning. Then some unknown attackers came on a motorcycle and fired indiscriminately at them and fled away. Both were taken to the nearest hospital where Saurav breathed his last. Munmun's condition is said to be stable.
Police are examining CCTV footage and interrogating family members to nab the attackers. Local people protested against the incident, due to which there was a traffic jam for hours. Patna SSP Rajiv Mishra said that a special team has been formed to investigate the incident.
