After being elected as ICC President, Jai Shah expressed his intention to further increase the global reach and popularity of cricket. According to the ICC statement, Shah said, “I am very happy to be elected as the ICC President. I am committed to working with the ICC team and our member countries to take world cricket forward. The ICC chairman is eligible for three terms of two years each and New Zealand's Barclay has so far completed four years. As per ICC rules, the election of the chairman consists of 16 votes and now requires a simple majority of nine votes (51%) for the winner. Under the ICC constitution, there are a total of 17 votes, of which 12 are votes of representatives of full-time Test nations, the president, vice-president, two associate members and an independent female director. Earlier, the incumbent was required to have a two-thirds majority to become the chairman. However, no one other than Jay Shah had filed nominations, so there was no need to hold elections.
