Jasprit Bumrah became the third highest wicket taker for India in T20 Internationals

New Delhi, June 10 (HS). Indian fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah has become the third highest wicket taker for India in T20 international cricket. Bumrah has left Hardik behind in this matter.

Bumrah achieved this feat in the match against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup match at Nassau County International Stadium in New York. India won the match by six runs.

Bumrah took three wickets for just 14 runs in four overs at an economy rate of 3.50 in the match. Bumrah took the wickets of captain Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed.

Bumrah has taken 79 wickets in 64 T20Is at an average of 18.67 and an economy rate of 6.44 with best figures of 3/11. Hardik has taken 78 wickets in 94 T20Is with best figures of 4/16.

The leading wicket-taker for India in the T20 format is spin veteran Yuzvendra Chahal, who has taken 96 wickets in 80 games at an average of 25.09 and an economy rate of 8.19 with best figures of 6/25. In second place is India's swing specialist Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has taken 90 wickets in 87 matches at an average of 23.10 and an economy rate of 6.96 with his best performance being 5/4.

Veteran New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee is the highest wicket-taker in T20 international cricket, taking 157 wickets in 123 matches at an average of 23.15 and an economy rate of 8.13, with his best performance being 5/13.

Talking about the match, Pakistan won the toss and invited India to bat first. However, the Indian batsmen did not perform well on this difficult surface and star openers Virat Kohli (4) and Rohit Sharma (13) failed to score big. Rishabh Pant (42 off 31 balls, six fours) was playing on a different pitch and he made useful partnerships with Axar Patel (20 off 18 balls, two fours and a six) and Suryakumar Yadav (seven off eight balls, a four). However, the lower middle order crumbled under the pressure of scoring runs on such a difficult pitch and India could only score 119 runs in 19 overs.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah took 3-3 wickets, Mohammad Amir took two and Shaheen Shah Afridi took one wicket.

Pakistan took a more balanced approach in the run-chase and Mohammad Rizwan (31 off 44 balls with a four and a six) held one end up. However, Bumrah (3/14) and Hardik Pandya (2/24) also took important wickets of captain Babar Azam (13), Fakhar Zaman (13), Shadab Khan (4), Iftikhar Ahmed (5) to keep the pressure on Pakistan. With 18 runs needed in the final over, Naseem Shah (10*) tried to seal the win for Pakistan, however, Arshdeep Singh (1/31) ensured Pakistan fell behind by six runs. Bumrah won the 'Player of the Match' award for his match-winning spell.
