Kalanur: Apart from the Supreme Court (SC) issuing orders to take strict action against those who set stubble on fire, the Punjab government and the agriculture department have organized camps to sensitize farmers not to burn stubble. This is being done, Jaskaran Singh Bhangu, a progressive youth and environmentalist of village Bhangwan under Kalanaur block of border district Gurdaspur is making bales of straw and selling it through a baler, and is also protecting the earth's friendly insects. . And they are trying to make the environment pure by saving the stubble from burning.
Bhangu told that after completing his B.Com studies, he likes to do manual farming on his 50 acres of land. He told that due to the polluted environment, the incidence of diseases is increasing and the fertility of the land has reduced due to the destruction of friendly insects, in such a situation, he spent Rs 40 lakh and prepared equipment like tractor, baler, trolley etc. Not only are they getting good income as the amount spent by them is completed in two seasons, there has also been a change in the crop yield due to increase in the fertility of the land.
He said that for the last three years he has abstained from burning straw and wheat waste. By converting wheat waste into straw for animal fodder, making straw bales not only purify the environment but also generate good income. Bhangu, who makes bales day and night with the help of a baler, said that he has not burnt the remains of straw and wheat straw for the last 3 years to save the environment which is getting polluted and the soil-friendly insects which are getting destroyed due to burning of straw. .brought. Since 3 years he has started making straw bales from baler and till now he has made straw bales in 500 acres of land, whereas this time he has set a target of making paddy bales in 2000 acres of land.
He told that after harvesting the paddy crop harvested by the combine, the farmers make straw bales for free from the fields. He told that the cost of making bundles per acre of land is Rs 2500 and the farmers who do not keep straw, they are making bundles by cutting the straw of those farmers with cutters. It is being bought by the Gujjar community for Rs 3500.
In the end he told that he has purchased equipment like baler, tractor and trolley at a cost of about Rs 40 lakh. This time, due to lack of purchase of paddy in the markets, farmers are reducing paddy harvesting. In the coming days, the work of making straw bales will start rapidly. He demanded that the Punjab Government should give higher price than before for the bales made by the baler owners to promote the making of straw bales. By doing this the tendency of burning stubble will be curbed to a great extent.
