The Hague, February 19 (HS). Italy's Jannik Sinner has won the title of the 51st edition of the ABN AMRO Open ATP tournament in Rotterdam on Sunday. Sinner defeated Alex de Minaur of Australia 7-5, 6-4 in a thrilling title match.
After winning the Australian Open in January, the 22-year-old Sinner came to Rotterdam with a lot of confidence and was a favorite to win the tournament. In Saturday's semi-finals, they defeated local favorite Talon Grixpur 6-2, 6-4.
The final against de Minaur, ranked 11th in the ATP world rankings, was a fascinating match full of long rallies. De Minaur leveled the score at 5–5 with a break after missing four set points for Sinner, but after one game, the Australian fell behind again and lost the set.
In the second set, Sinner did not give any chance to De Minaur and easily won the second game 6–4 to take the title.
It is Sinner's 15th consecutive win, who will move from fourth to third in the rankings on Monday. Last year, Sinner had lost to Russia's Daniil Medvedev in the final in Rotterdam.
