Mumbai: South's top choreographer Jani Master has withdrawn the National Award for Best Choreography for the song 'Megham Karukatha' from the film 'Tiruchitrambalam'. The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to suspend the award following the arrest of Jani Master on charges of raping one of his assistants. An order issued on Friday said the award has been suspended until further orders. Jani Master was given the award for the year 2022. The distribution ceremony of this award will be organized on the next date. This is on October 8th. But, the invitation card sent to him for this program has also been withdrawn. An assistant of Jani Master complained that Jani Master sexually assaulted her during her stay in Mumbai in 2020.
After these allegations, Goa Police arrested him last September.
Jani Master has choreographed many songs including 'Teri Jhalak Ashrafi' from 'Pushpa' and 'Aaj Ki Raat' from the recent mega hit film 'Stree 2'.
