The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday appointed former national general secretary of the party Ram Madhav and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy as election in-charges. An official statement issued by the party said that National President J.P. Nadda has appointed Madhav and Reddy as election in-charges of Jammu and Kashmir. This appointment will come into effect with immediate effect.

Who is Ram Madhav who has been made in-charge?

According to the information, Madhav has been the national general secretary of BJP during 2014-20. He was made in-charge of political affairs of Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and other north-eastern states of India. Along with this, Ram Madhav, who joined BJP from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, has also played an important role in Jammu and Kashmir.

His role is considered important in forming the coalition government of BJP and People's Democratic Party (PDP). In this coalition government, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became the Chief Minister and BJP got the post of Deputy Chief Minister. When Nadda was made the President after BJP's victory in the 2019 general elections in the country, he did not include Madhav in the team of national office bearers. Currently, Madhav is the President of a think tank India Foundation.

Assembly elections are being held after 10 years

It is worth noting that the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held in 3 phases. Voting for the 90-member assembly will be held on September 18, September 25 and October 1, while the results will be declared on October 4. Assembly elections are being held for the first time in the former state in almost a decade after most of the provisions of Article 370 were removed.

In Jammu and Kashmir, voting will be held on 24 seats in the first phase, while in the second and third phases, voting will be held on 26 and 40 seats respectively. The last assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were held in 5 phases in November-December 2014. Then it was a state and Ladakh was a part of it.
