New Delhi, 06 August (HS). Jamaat-e-Islami Hind's Ameer (President) Syed Saadatullah Hussaini has expressed concern over the current situation in Bangladesh and has appealed to the authorities responsible for dealing with this emergency situation to restore peace and stability in the country and take immediate and decisive action. He expressed concern over media reports that miscreants are taking advantage of this unrest to damage property and persecute innocent citizens, especially those from minority communities. We strongly condemn these violent acts and demand immediate measures to ensure the safety of minorities and other vulnerable groups.
He said that it is heartening to know that a large number of citizens and members of civil society are coming forward to ensure the safety of religious places and properties of minority communities and are preventing violent mobs from doing so. He has demanded the responsible authorities of the government to pay attention to this and strictly stop the violent mobs.
He said that we also appeal to the protesters and the general public to give priority to restoring peace and order in the country. Play your role in protecting the lives and properties of minorities and vulnerable groups to maintain social harmony.
Syed Saadatullah Hussaini expressed deep concern over the current situation in Bangladesh and its far-reaching consequences for the region. He said the current unrest in Bangladesh is a direct result of the Sheikh Hasina government's dictatorship and heavy-handed approach to governance. Bangladesh's election in January 2024 was marred by widespread allegations of unfair practices, leading to the entire opposition boycotting the electoral process. This weakened the foundations of democracy and eroded public confidence in the political system. Additionally, the previous government's attempts to suppress dissenting voices through vendetta politics were extremely disturbing. Prominent opposition leaders were unjustly imprisoned, which hindered democratic dialogue and increased political tensions.
The Jamaat Ameer further said that the response of the Sheikh Hasina government to the protesting students was extremely violent and repressive, akin to measures used in a war-like situation. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind urges the highest authorities of Bangladesh to take immediate and decisive action to restore peace and stability in the country and immediately form an interim government that has the confidence of the people. All those who have suffered during this period must get justice and those responsible must be punished. The interim government must initiate the democratic process without further delay to ensure that free and fair elections can be held, and a truly representative and democratically elected government is established that reflects the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people.
