Bhilwara, September 18 (HS). After the incidents that took place on September 14 in Jahazpur town of Shahpura district, Jahazpur Congress city president Sadiq Pathan and seven Muslim councilors of the municipality have collectively resigned from their posts. They allege that after the incidents of vandalism, arson and looting in the shops and cabins of the Muslim community on September 14, the administration has taken unilateral action, due to which the people of the Muslim community could not get justice. After this incident, no Congress official neither contacted the Muslim community nor provided any help, due to which everyone was hurt and decided to resign.
Those who resigned include city president Sadiq Pathan, all Congress officials, seven Muslim councilors of Nagar Palika Mandal Jahazpur whose names and wards are Ward No. 01 Siraj Ahmed, Ward No. 07 Nazir Mohammad Sarwari, Ward No. 08 Shabnam Begum, Ward No. 17 Rubina Banu, Ward No. 18 Shagil Ahmed, Ward No. 19 Parvez Khan Pathan, Ward No. 20 Mujammil Pathan.
The councillors who resigned say that in the incident of 14 September, shops of the Muslim community were attacked, but the local administration took unilateral action instead of taking balanced and fair action in this matter. Due to this, the people of the Muslim community were deprived of justice. They allege that no state or district level leader or official of the Congress Party contacted them after these incidents, nor did anyone try to raise the problems of the Muslim community. Hurt by this indifference and lack of support, all the councillors and the city president decided to resign en masse.
Those who resigned alleged that the senior leaders of the party did not pay attention to this serious issue. Leaders and youth of the Muslim community of Jahazpur assembly constituency also expressed displeasure over the fact that Congress showed failure to protect the safety and dignity of the Muslim community. The leaders who resigned believe that this behavior of the party has created deep disappointment in the Muslim community, and hence they can no longer be associated with the party.
This mass resignation has made the local political environment even more tense. There was already a tense atmosphere between the communities in Jahazpur, and after this resignation the situation may become more serious. The councilors expressed their displeasure with the administration and the Congress party and said that if their demands are not heard as soon as possible, the protest may become more fierce. There has been no official response from the local Congress leadership on this mass resignation yet. This incident can prove to be a big setback for the party, especially at a time when the role of the Muslim community is important in the electoral equations.
