Jagdalpur, 29 August (HS). An accused Islam Mohammad, father Kalwa, age 42 years, resident of Uttar Pradesh, who absconded with gold jewellery in the name of visiting God near Sanjay Market under the police station Kotwali area of ​​the district, has been arrested. His accomplices Jalaluddin alias Jalal, Ejaz, Farman and Khaliq are absconding. Accused Islam Mohammad was arrested from District Shahranpur, Uttar Pradesh and brought to Jagdalpur today on Thursday. After the proceedings, he was presented before the Jagdalpur court on remand, from where he has been sent to jail. The search for the remaining accused is on and they will be arrested soon.

According to the information received from the police, the applicant Mrs. Chanda Jain, resident of Jagdalpur, lodged a report that on the morning of 29 June 2024, she was returning on foot after performing Puja. During this time, two unknown persons near Sanjay Market enticed the applicant by telling her that they have come from Haridwar and will show her the Lord. They cheated the applicant by taking away the jewellery of gold chain, ring, earring and anklet worth estimated market value of Rs. 94 thousand and fled away with the jewellery. Based on this report, a case under section 420, 34 IPC, 112 IPC was registered against the accused in Police Station Kotwali and investigation was taken up. During the investigation, the police team traced the address of accused Islam Mohammad from Uttar Pradesh, took him into custody and interrogated him. He, along with his associates Ejaz, Farman and Khaliq, conspired to deceive the elderly woman and pretended to be God and asked her to walk 51 steps with her eyes closed. They made her remove the jewellery she was wearing, including gold chain, ring, earring and anklet, and made her keep it in their hands and all the accomplices fled on their motorcycle. Apart from this, the arrested accused Islam Mohammad also admitted to committing such a crime on 29 June 2024 in Kondagaon district and in the year 2021. He told that he gave all the jewellery and cash from this fraud to his leader Jalaluddin alias Jalalu, resident of Uttarakhand, from which he told that he got Rs 40,000 as division.
