Jagar and drum playing are our cultural identity: Chief Minister Dhami | News India

Dehradun, 03 September (HS). The Chief Minister said that Jagar and Dhol playing are our cultural identity. It connects us with the depth of our heritage. Pritam Bharatwan is the brand ambassador of the folk culture of Uttarakhand and he has worked to spread the sacred folk traditions and folk culture of Devbhoomi to the world.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said these things as the chief guest at the Jagar Lok Sanskriti Utsav organized at the I.R.D. Auditorium at Survey Chowk on Tuesday. On this occasion, the Chief Minister released the book 'Uttarakhand ka Lok Putra Pritam Bharatwan' written by Sachidanand Semwal.

The Chief Minister said that Jagar is also considered a medium to invoke the gods in the culture of Uttarakhand. He appreciated the efforts of Pritam Bharatwan for connecting the youth with this art through Jagar Academy. Our youth are working to take this tradition forward by making efforts to take this rich art of folk culture forward from generation to generation with the younger generation.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is constantly making efforts for the prosperity of the folk art and folk culture of the state. The tradition of honoring the new and emerging talented litterateurs has also been started. Efforts are also being made to provide better platforms to the artists. Work is also being done to get recognition and preserve the Jagar singing style and the ancient traditional folk art and folk culture through the Guru-Shishya tradition.

The Chief Minister also praised the efforts of the author of the book, Sachchidanand Semwal, and said that his efforts would be helpful in spreading the good efforts of Pritam Bharatwan to the people. The Chief Minister also expected everyone to work dedicatedly in preserving their folk culture and passing it on to the future generations.

Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal described Pritam Bharatwan as a symbol of Jagar culture and a carrier of folk culture. Minister Ganesh Joshi said that Pritam Bharatwan worked to spread Jagar and Dhol culture to the world.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi described his efforts as a means of connecting the young generation with their culture. Former DGP and litterateur Somwari Lal Uniyal also expressed his views. The author of the book, Sachchidanand Semwal, gave information about the subject matter of the book. Padmashree Pritam Bharatwan expressed his gratitude to all the dignitaries present in the program including the Chief Minister.

On this occasion a large number of dignitaries associated with folk culture and literature were present.
