Antigua, June 5 (HS). West Indies have included uncapped opening batsman Michael Lewis in the squad for the upcoming three-Test tour of England in July. The 15-member team will be captained by Craig Brathwaite and his deputy will be Alzari Joseph.
The team also includes Jaden Seals, who was ruled out of the last series against Australia due to injury. Jason Holder is also included in the team, who had declared himself unavailable for the last tour.
The 23-year-old Lewis, who has previously played for the Under-19 team, has been selected on the back of a strong first-class season in which he scored 682 runs at an average of 48.71 for the Leeward Islands Hurricanes.
CWI chief selector Desmond Haynes said in an official statement, “The squad has been built with both experience and emerging talent, ensuring a strong balance to meet the challenge of playing in English conditions. Over the past year, our red-ball program has been constantly evolving. After our victory in the last Test in Australia in January, it is clear that we are seeing the fruits of that investment. Each player selected has earned their place through consistent performances and hard work. We are confident that this mix of experienced players and emerging faces will put up a great performance against England.”
The Richards-Botham Trophy will begin on July 10 at Lord's.
West Indies squad is as follows: Craig Brathwaite (captain), Alick Athanaze, Joshua da Silva, Jason Holder, Kavem Hodge, Tevin Imlach, Alzari Joseph (vice-captain), Shamar Joseph, Mikail Lewis, Zachary McCaskey, Kirk McKenzie, Gudakesh Moti, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Kevin Sinclair.
