Jabalpur: Workshop on climate change and soil health concluded

Jabalpur, March 14 (HS). Agricultural scientists of Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University and BISA attended the workshop organized by Additional Chief Secretary of Farmer Welfare and Agricultural Development Department Ashok Varnwal and Agriculture Commissioner M.Selvendran at Borlaug Institute for South Asia (BISA), Jabalpur. The strategy was prepared after discussing with the agricultural scientists of the Agriculture Department as well as the Deputy Director of Agriculture and Project Director Atma of the Agriculture Department. Besides, the demonstration of zero tillage technology by crop residue management being done by BISA Institute was also observed.

Additional Chief Secretary Varnwal said that agricultural scientists and officials of the Agriculture Department should make the new advanced technologies available to the farmers in simple language and explain them to them. Agriculture Commissioner M. Selvendran said that farmers from each district should be shown the progress and technology by conducting exposure visits and should select two climate smart villages and take this new technology to the farmers there.

During the discussion, BISA MD Dr. Arun Joshi and Chief Scientist Dr. Ravi Gopal stressed upon the farmers to improve the health of the soil by managing crop residue through zero tillage technique and adopt sustainable farming by adopting crop diversification. On this occasion, Head of Soil Department of Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University, Dr. Hitendra Rai, Director of Extension Services, Dr. Dinkar Sharma, Head of Breeder, Dr. Shukla and Joint Director of Agriculture, Jabalpur, K.S. Netam along with Deputy Director of Agriculture of Chhindwara district, Jitendra Kumar Singh. , Assistant Director Agriculture Dheeraj Thakur, CDO Amarwada Sachin Jain and Deputy Director Agriculture and Project Director Atma of other districts were also present.
