Jammu/Lucknow. Due to the fierce form of monsoon, there is a flood like situation in the border districts of the hill state of Jammu and Kashmir. According to a special ground report of Moneycontrol Hindi, flash floods and massive landslides following overnight torrential rains and cloudburst in the twin border districts of Jammu division, Poonch and Rajouri, have caused huge devastation. So far 12 people have died tragically in this natural disaster and many others are reported missing.
As soon as the news of deteriorating conditions and devastation in the valley was received, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, showing sensitivity, canceled his visit to Delhi midway and immediately returned to Jammu on Sunday afternoon. While presiding over a high-level emergency meeting at the Civil Secretariat of Jammu, he directed the entire administrative machinery of the state to remain on high alert.

Death of 6 people of the same family: A huge landslide fell directly on a residential house in Lower Marrah area of Surankote, due to which 9 people including 6 members of the same family were buried under the debris and died.

Furious form of rivers: In Rajouri city too, the rising river water entered the residential colonies (Bela Colony) and New Bus Stand area, due to which more than 200 vehicles parked there were washed away like cards or buried under the debris.
‘Preventing loss of life is the first priority’ – CM Omar Abdullah in action after returning from Delhi
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was in Delhi in connection with a pre-scheduled political demonstration (Statehood Protest) of the National Conference, but seeing the crisis faced by the citizens of the state, he immediately returned. As soon as he reached Jammu, he wrote on the social media platform ‘X’:
“Since morning, I have been monitoring the situation arising out of excessive rains in Rajouri city and surrounding areas. I am in direct contact with the local MLAs and administrative officials. At this time, the first priority of the entire government and administration is to safeguard precious human lives. The government will immediately provide all possible financial assistance and rehabilitation materials to those whose properties and houses have been damaged.
The Chief Minister directed the police, army, local volunteers and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) Instructions have been given to conduct rescue operations on war footing and intensify the search for missing people.

Seeing the seriousness of the situation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to LG Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on phone and assured the Central Government of sending additional NDRF teams and providing all possible relief and rehabilitation assistance.
