The ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament in collaboration with Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) and Gujarat State Tennis Association (GSTA) will be played at the Ace Tennis Academy from 23rd with a total of 80 players from across India including 10 from abroad.
Young player Jheel Desai from Gujarat will play in the main draw. Talented young players Khushali Modi and Priyanshi Bhandari have been given entry into the main draw through wild cards. The qualifying rounds will be played on 21st and 22nd in the tournament, which will be played on three covered and two open clay courts. Head coach Dmitry Baskov said that players from other countries including Russia, Canada, Japan, Israel, Britain are also participating in the tournament. Apart from this, some players are in the waiting list to participate in the tournament. Shrimal Bhatt of GSTA also said that the level of tennis in Gujarat is continuously increasing due to the organization of international level tournaments.
Pramesh Modi, who started Ace Academy in 1998 and has trained more than 20 thousand players, said that random dope tests will be conducted by the ITF during the tournament. For this his medical team will also visit the academy. Gujarat, especially Ahmedabad, is becoming the hub of tennis and such tournaments are being organized regularly at the domestic level to give local players the experience of playing against foreign players on clay courts. Four players from Gujarat have also been given wild cards in the qualifying round.
