Berlin, June 25 (HS). Defending champions Italy entered the last-16 stage of Euro 2024 with a 1-1 draw against Croatia thanks to a last-minute goal by Mattias Zaccagni, while Spain continued their impressive form by beating Albania 1-0 in the final round of Group B on Monday.
Croatia started aggressively because it knew that only a win would ensure its place in the round of 16. It got many chances to score but could not succeed. The first half ended goalless.
After the interval, Croatia once again started well. In the 55th minute of the match, Luka Modric scored a goal and gave Croatia a 1-0 lead.
Italy then started attacking Croatia's goal area as they needed more chances to secure their place in the next round. In the extra time of the match, Mattias Zaccagni finally scored a goal to give Italy a 1-1 draw and this score proved to be decisive.
In the other Group B match, leaders Spain extended their winning streak to three matches by beating Albania 1-0 with a solitary goal from Ferran Torres.
Spain topped Group B with 9 points, followed by Italy (4 points), Croatia (2 points) and Alabamia (1 point).
The top two and the four best third-placed teams from each of the six groups will advance to the round-of-16 knockout stage.
