Tensions have been rising between the two countries for some time now
Relations between India and Pakistan became strained after Indian warplanes bombed a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist training camp in Balakot, Pakistan in February 2019 in response to the Pulwama terror attack. Relations between the two countries further soured after India on August 5, 2019 announced withdrawal of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcation of the state into two union territories. India says it wants normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan and insists that it is Islamabad's responsibility to create an environment free from terrorism and hostility for such relations.
