It rained in a single day for two years in Arab countries struggling for drinking water

Dubai, Muscat: Life became disrupted due to heavy rain in Dubai on Tuesday. The desert received as much rainfall in one day as it did in two years. Dubai airport had to be closed for half an hour. According to CNN, a large storm system that formed over the Arabian Peninsula caused heavy rainfall as it moved from the Arabian Peninsula towards the Gulf of Oman and southern Iran.

Due to this, there was heavy rain at many places in UAE and Oman and motorcycles also drowned. Big vehicles had to be stopped. Water entered Dubai metro station.

Actually, it started raining very slowly from late Monday night and it increased significantly on Tuesday. It recorded 142 mm (5.59 in) at the end of the day. In fact, Dubai's annual rainfall is only 94.7 mm. (3.37 inches).

This led to flooding of roads in Dubai, with the government warning people not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. A similar situation was seen in Oman and its capital Mastak. In this regard, climate change expert and leader of the Institute of Climate Change of Imperia College, London, Frederick Otto, says that this incident may have happened due to global warming. It is also possible that man-made seasonal changes are more responsible for such rainfall causing food damage in Oman and Dubai.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg has said that this much rain may have occurred due to 'black oud seeding' (sprinkling on clouds).

In fact, the UAE has started cloud seeding since 2002, in which chemicals and fine particles are sprayed from airplanes above the clouds. Potassium chloride is prominent in this. Therefore the water in the clouds separates and falls as rain.
