World Laughter Day was started on 11 January 1998 in Mumbai. The credit for establishing World Laughter Day goes to Dr. Madan goes to Kataria. It was he who celebrated World Comedy Day for the first time in Mumbai on 11 January 1998. The main objective behind celebrating it was to reduce the increasing tension in the society.
