A workshop on 'It is important for the media to be aware of the persons with disabilities and their rights' was organized at the National Institute of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday. During this, the speakers said that it is very important for the media to be aware and sensitive towards the disabled people and their rights.
Information Commissioner Yogesh Bhatt, as the chief guest, inaugurated the one-day workshop “Samvad” on behalf of the institute's community radio station 91.2 NIVH Hello Doon by lighting the lamp. During this, the speakers tried to understand the public awareness and sensitivity towards the disabled people afresh.
Executive Director of NIEPVD, Surendra Dhalwal, while explaining the objective of the Samvad program, said that the role of media in the society is important in creating public awareness as well as in shaping the thoughts of the people.
Assistant Professor Pankaj Kumar explained in detail about the RPWD Act.
Kamal Prajapati of the Indian Information Service, who is himself visually impaired, shared his work experiences in the media sector.
On this occasion, the students of the Radio Jockey Course of the institute presented a short drama on this. A film was also shown on various schemes run by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India for education, employment and rehabilitation of the disabled persons.
The program producer of the institute, Chetna Gola, while thanking all the media representatives, called for the coming together of various media formats for public awareness related to disabled people. Faculty members from various media institutes and students of Mass Communication also participated in this workshop.
