The Income Tax Department has issued a demand notice of Rs 1,823.08 crore to the Congress party for discrepancies in its tax returns for previous years. According to sources, the new notice is for assessment year 2017-18 to 2020-21, which also includes penalty and interest. The Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) also asked Congress to pay the tax dues and froze its bank accounts. Congress described the tribunal's order as an attack on democracy.
