It created history by surpassing TikTok, the world's most downloaded app, in 2023

New Delhi: The popularity of Instagram is increasing day by day in India as well as across the world. In such a situation, another new news has come out, in which it has been revealed that Meta's photo sharing platform i.e. Instagram has left TikTok behind and has made its place among the most downloaded apps in 2023.

A report says that Instagram has become the most downloaded app in the world, surpassing TikTok. According to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, the total number of Instagram app downloads increased by 20% to 768 million in 2023 compared to 2022. While downloads of ByteDance's app TikTok could increase only by 4% to 733 million.

Instagram competes with TikTok

As we know, Instagram launched a feature like Instagram Reels in 2020 after watching TikTok, which allows users to share short clips on the platform.

Abraham Youssef, senior insights manager at Sensor Tower, told the media that over the past few years, Instagram has overtaken TikTok in terms of the popularity of its Reels feature as well as the adoption of older social media features and functions.

Along with adding new users, Instagram has kept its users engaged with the app with the help of short-form videos, said Mark Shmulik, an analyst at Bernstein.

Instagram is attracting people

Shamulik said that people are getting more attracted towards Instagram as it is a better platform to monetize the follower base. However, TikTok is second to none in helping content creators go viral overnight.

Let us tell you that a big reason for Instagram beating TikTok is that it allows you to download videos without any watermark, whereas in TikTok you have to download TikTok-watermarked videos.

According to us, banning of TikTok in India can also be an important reason due to which its user base has been affected. Let us tell you that in the fourth quarter of last year, more than 1 billion active users spent an average of 95 minutes on TikTok, while 62 minutes were spent on Instagram.
