SpaDeX Mission: Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched its Spadex mission via PSLV rocket from Sriharikota on Monday (December 30, 2024) at 10 pm. Space docking experiment will be beneficial. India has become a successful launch country for Spadex. ISRO has described it as an important ‘milestone’ in India’s space programme.
It is believed that the success of this mission of ISRO will determine the success of the Indian Space Station (BAS) and the success of Chandrayaan-4 mission. This is the reason why this launch is being considered very important.
What is the Spadex mission?
The mission consists of two satellites. Chaser first and target second. A chaser satellite will capture the target. This will do the docking. Apart from this, an important test can also be done in it. A robotic arm emerges from the satellite, which will pull the target towards itself through a hook, i.e. tied to it. This target may be a different CubeSat.
With this experiment, in the future ISRO will get the technology to return satellites going in a different direction back after leaving the orbit. Also, the option of in-orbit servicing and refueling will also open. The Spadex mission will see two separate spacecraft joining together in space.
India became the fourth country in the world
ISRO said this technology is required when multiple rocket launches are required to accomplish the same mission objectives. If this mission is successful, India will become the fourth country in the world to acquire this technology. Till then America, China and Russia have this technology.
