Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chief S Somnath was battling cancer at the time of the launch of India's Sun mission Aditya L-1.
Somnath confirmed this in an interview and said that cancer was detected in the scanning. Some health related problems also arose during the launch of Chandrayaan-3 mission. However, nothing was clear till then. He said that he came to know about this disease on the day of Aditya Mission. Both he and his family were upset by this.
Even all his fellow scientists were saddened by this news but he kept himself under control in this challenging environment. Protected the family and ISRO scientists. After the launch he got his stomach scanned. Then it was revealed. But he went to Chennai for further investigation and treatment. It was discovered that he had inherited this disease. He had stomach cancer.
Within a few days, cancer was confirmed. After this Somnath underwent surgery. Then he continued chemotherapy. Somnath said that his entire family is in shock.
