Washington, July 27 (HS). US presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a Florida resort on Friday. A day earlier, Netanyahu met President Joe Biden and Harris in separate meetings in Washington.
Trump greeted Netanyahu warmly and dismissed any signs of tension between them, telling reporters they have a “very good relationship.” Harris struck a more forceful tone than Biden in her public remarks on Thursday, pressing Netanyahu to help reach a ceasefire in Gaza. Harris said after the talk, “It’s time to end this war,” and expressed concern about the conflict’s impact on Palestinian civilians.
Trump on Friday called Kamala Harris's remarks “disgraceful.”
According to Israel, the conflict began on October 7 when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel from Gaza, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages.
Israel's counteroffensive on Gaza has killed more than 39,000 people and destroyed much of the enclave, according to Gazan health officials. The response has displaced most of Gaza's 2.3 million people and created a humanitarian crisis. The Biden administration has been criticized by some Democrats for not putting more pressure on Netanyahu to protect Palestinian civilians. Trump has also called for an immediate end to the war, telling Fox News on Thursday that Israel was “being devastated by this propaganda.”
