During the war, the city of 30,000 people almost all fled. Now efforts are being made to rebuild it. Israel plans to build 5,000 new housing units. This includes student apartments, about 370,000 square meters of area for commerce and employment, and 350,000 square meters of public buildings. In addition, an area of ​​40 acres has been set aside for open space.

The plan aims to develop the complex around the railway station. Yehuda Morgenstern, CEO of the Ministry of Construction and Housing, said the expansion of the city of Sderot and the construction of 5,000 housing units is very good news for the southern city and the entire State of Israel.
