Israel has vehemently denied allegations of water-related genocide in Gaza. Israel says it is ensuring safe and adequate water supplies for Gaza’s residents. UNICEF is monitoring this process.
Recently there were reports alleging that Israel is committing genocide by depriving the people of Gaza of clean water. Refuting these claims, Israel’s social media platform x A video was shared on Twitter, which showed a water purification plant located in Khan Yunis. It is told in the video that Israel is cooperating in supplying electricity for this plant, so that the residents of Gaza can get clean water. This plant can purify 20,000 cubic meters of water per day when working at its full capacity.
Human Rights Watch’s allegation

The report said that since the Israeli attack on Gaza in October 2023, the people of Gaza Strip are not being provided clean water.
Israel’s answer
Israel denied these allegations x But said that water is being supplied regularly through three water lines in Gaza. An average of 107 liters of water per capita is being provided in Northern Gaza, 34 liters in Central Gaza, and 20 liters in Southern Gaza. This figure exceeds the minimum limit of 15 liters of water per person required in a conflict zone as per international standards.
x In another post shared on Twitter, Israel said that it is monitoring humanitarian aid in Gaza and has also repaired water supply infrastructure in many places.
COGAT’s contribution
Israeli unit to coordinate government activities in Gaza COGAT also reacted to the situation. The entity said it has worked with UNICEF to ensure safe access to water for residents of Gaza. Under this, hundreds of water infrastructures were repaired in the northern and southern parts of Gaza. Also, water lines that were damaged in Hamas attacks were repaired. Some of these repair works were done even during the firing.
Israel has made it clear that humanitarian aid in Gaza is its priority and that it considers any allegations of genocide to be baseless. On the other hand, this issue still remains a topic of discussion among human rights organizations and the international community.
