According to an Israeli military statement, it targeted an extremist command and control center inside the school. Israel has repeatedly attacked schools in Gaza that have been converted into shelters, alleging that militants are hiding there.
Witnesses said the target of the attack was a temporary police post run by Hamas inside the shelter. Witnesses said the attack occurred as school administrators were meeting with representatives of the aid group in a room used by Hamas-run police. He said that there was no policeman in the room at that time.
Two peacekeepers injured in Lebanon
In another incident, two UN peacekeepers were injured in an Israeli attack in Lebanon. Israeli forces opened fire on three peacekeeping posts in southern Lebanon on Thursday.
