Sanaa, July 21 (HS). A day after the deadly drone attack by Houthi rebels on the city of Tel Aviv, Israel retaliated by attacking several bases of the rebel group in western Yemen. The Israeli army gave this information.
This appears to be the first attack by Israel on Yemeni soil since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October. The Israeli army said that it attacked several of its bases in the western port city of Hudaydah, considered a stronghold of the Houthi. It said that this action was taken in response to hundreds of attacks on Israel in recent months.
“There was an 'Israeli attack' on Yemen, targeting fuel storage facilities and power plants,” Mohammad Abdulsalam, a spokesman for the Houthi rebel group, said in a post on the social media platform 'X'.
Abdul Salam said that Israel wanted to increase the suffering of the people through these attacks. He said that these attacks were also carried out to put pressure on Yemen to stop supporting Gaza.
Abdulsalam said these attacks will make the people of Yemen and its armed forces even stronger to support Gaza. Mohammad Ali al-Houthi of the Supreme Political Council in Yemen said in a post on 'X', “Many deadly attacks will be carried out in response to this.”
Al-Masirah TV, a media group controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen, reported that Israel targeted oil and diesel storage facilities at the port and local power companies, killing several people and leaving many with severe burn injuries. It said the attack caused a fire at the port and disrupted power supplies. Health officials in Yemen said several people were killed and others injured in the Israeli attack but did not provide details.
