ISL: Punjab FC team would like to perform better in front of Mumbai City

New Delhi, March 2 (HS). Punjab FC will be hoping to continue their good form when they take on Mumbai City FC in Round 17 of the Indian Super League 2023-24 season at their home ground, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, this evening.

The Punjab team has won three of its last four matches and are in good form and are just three points away from a playoff spot. They registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Hyderabad FC in their last match, while Mumbai City played their last match with a 1-1 draw against FC Goa.

“We are playing a team that is playing very good modern football and we will have to work extra hard against them,” Punjab head coach Stachysvergetis said on Friday, on the eve of the match. Our previous matches against Mumbai in ISL and Super League were close and despite good performances, we lost to a better team. The match against them will be very tough and we hope that my players will execute the plans well to bring positive results.”

Wilmer Jordan, Luca Majsen and Madihatlal have been in good form and are leading the attack for the team. The duo of Luca and Wilmer Jordan have scored six and three goals respectively, while Madihatlal has played a creator role with five assists and leads the league in chances created.

During the pre-match press conference, Punjab goalkeeper Ravi Kumar said, “There is a healthy competition among all the goalkeepers in the team which makes us play whenever required. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very good and the entire focus is on performing well in the match against Mumbai.”

Punjab FC are currently placed 10th in the table with 17 points from 16 matches, while Mumbai City FC are placed second in the table with 32 points from 16 matches.
