Bengaluru, April 11 (HS). Bengaluru FC will host Mohun Bagan Super Giants in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 match to be played at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium this evening.
To reach the top spot in the league stage, Mohun Bagan will have to win the do-or-die match at any cost. They have 42 points from 20 matches and are five points behind league leaders Mumbai City FC (47).
The equation for Mohun Bagan Super Giant is simple. They will have to reach 48 points, for which they will have to win both their remaining matches. Losing a point in this match would mean that Mumbai City FC will become ISL 2023-24 league winners. Conversely, a win against Bengaluru FC could see the Mariners take their clash to the final day of the league.
The Bengaluru team is already out of the race for the playoffs after losing 2-1 to East Bengal FC.
“This season has definitely not been good,” Bengaluru FC’s Spanish head coach Gerard Zaragoza said before the match on Thursday. While BFC could not qualify for the playoffs, we cannot say that it is a great season. The reality is that we need to improve in our away matches.”
Mohun Bagan Super Giants assistant coach Manuel Perez said in the pre-match press conference, “We talked about winning three consecutive matches. We did it in Delhi and now we have to win the remaining two matches. As a professional player and coach, there is always pressure, but this kind of pressure is good and we have to bear it.”
Let us tell you that so far 8 matches have been played between the two teams, in which Bengaluru FC has won only 1 match, while Mohun Bagan Super Giant has won 6 matches, 1 match has been a draw.
