Devotees of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) prayed in Kolkata on Tuesday for the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh. Since the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, there have been continuous attacks on minorities in Bangladesh. Hundreds of ISKCON followers chanted ‘Hare Krishna’ and sang songs to express solidarity with Hindus in Bangladesh.

Holding placards demanding protection of Hindus in Bangladesh, devotees led by ISKCON Kolkata spokesperson Radharaman Das joined the prayers at the Albert Road centre.

Bangladesh has been in turmoil since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government, with hundreds of attacks reported in more than 50 districts. About eight percent of Bangladesh’s total population of 17 crore are Hindus.

Radharaman Das had earlier also demanded that the interim government of Bangladesh should take strict action against the radicals and arrest them so that confidence could be increased among the minorities. He has also demanded the immediate release of jailed Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das and other saints arrested in Bangladesh. Das will be produced before a Bangladesh court on January 2.
