Ranchi, September 14 (HS). A delegation of ISDG Research Foundation met Agriculture Minister Deepika Pandey Singh on Saturday regarding the subject of fortification. The representatives gave detailed information about the bio-fortification program of HarvestPlus.
The delegation was informed that the Bio Fortification Program is being implemented effectively in the State of Jharkhand in collaboration with JSLPC and ISDG Research Foundation. The Minister appreciated this remarkable initiative and assured that under his guidance, necessary support will be provided to make this program reach the families in remote areas of the State.
It is worth noting that HarvestPlus's bio-fortification program works through the SHG model among PVTGs and extremely poor communities. It encourages the production and consumption of three important crops, calcium-rich madua, iron-rich millet and zinc-rich wheat. Bio-fortified crops have climate resistance as well as abundance of micronutrients.
