Is Choksi an Indian citizen? Bombay High Court asked ED questions

Mumbai : One of the enemies of the country, Tahwwur Rana has been extradited to India and judicial action is going on against him. Meanwhile, another fugitive enemy of India has been arrested and preparations for his extradition is going on. Mehul Choksi, who ran away with a lime of about Rs 15,000 crore to India, has been arrested by the Belgium Police. This has raised hopes among Indians that other enemies of the country will be caught soon.

Meanwhile, the High Court has asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) whether the absconding accused and diamond merchant Mehul Choksi is an Indian citizen or a citizen of any other country in the case of financial irregularities associated with NPNB bank loan scam. It was also ordered to clarify the situation in this regard.

Choksi has moved the High Court to cancel the non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued by the Mumbai Sessions Court in 2018. Please take cognizance of that petition. Shivkumar Diggi’s single bench asked the ED the above question. Choksi, the main accused in the alleged Punjab National Bank scam of crores of rupees, was arrested in Belgium on 12 April after extradition request of Indian investigative agencies.

Claims to renounce Indian citizenship

Advocate Vijay Aggarwal, who was present through Vice from London, told the court that Choksi had given up his Indian citizenship. Taking cognizance of this, the court ordered Vengaonkar to submit information regarding Choksi’s citizenship and fixed the next hearing of the case for May 2. On the other hand, Choksi, citing health related problems, sought permission to appear in court through VC, due to which he is unable to travel and appear physically.

Non-bailable warrant should be issued!

The CBI has demanded a non-bailable warrant against diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, who is absconding in 55 fraud cases related to Canara Bank and Bank of Maharashtra.
