Railways has taken this big step in view of the frequent technical glitches on the existing website during peak hours (especially at the time of Tatkal ticket booking), frequent Captcha failures and slow speed of the payment gateway.

Railway Minister’s ‘on-the-spot’ answer to the sharp question of the student in MNIT Jaipur

This important announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw himself at Malviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan.MNIT) during his visit. While participating in an interactive session with the students there, a student asked a direct and sharp question to the Railway Minister that, “Why do common people face so much trouble while booking tickets online? Why does it become almost impossible to book Tatkal tickets especially during festivals or heavy rush hours?”

The Railway Minister immediately took cognizance of this question and asked on-stage a top technical officer of the Railways present at the event whether the new website could be made live within the next 30 days. After getting the green signal from the official, the Railway Minister announced amidst thunderous applause from the students that the new super-fast website will be handed over to the country by July 15. The video of this conversation is now becoming increasingly viral on social media.

Why was there a need for a new website? You will get freedom from these 5 big problems

Currently, passengers face many chronic problems while booking tickets on the IRCTC website, which will be completely fixed on the new platform:

  • Hanging in Tatkal Booking: As soon as the Tatkal ticket window opened at 10 and 11 am, the website used to crash or hang due to the influx of crores of users, which is now being upgraded.

  • Captcha Issue: Many times, even after entering the correct captcha, it would repeatedly declare it invalid, due to which the trains would get full even before getting the confirmed ticket.

  • OTP delay: Tickets used to get canceled due to delay in receiving OTP at the time of bank payment or login.

  • Slow Speed and Server Crash: The old server used to go down due to it being unable to handle the heavy traffic load.

Passengers will get these great features on the new platform

According to reports, the architecture of the new website to be launched on July 15 will be very modern and user-friendly interface:

  1. Cloud-Based High Capacity: The new platform will be able to easily handle the traffic load of millions of users simultaneously without crashing.

  2. Fast Booking Process: The entire process from searching tickets to filling passenger details and final payment will be many times faster than before.

  3. Better option of seat selection: Passengers will get a clearer and better graphical interface to select the coach and seat.

  4. Instant Waiting Prediction: During Tatkal ticket booking, you will get more clear live information regarding the exact probability of the waiting list being confirmed.

Why is this digital transformation necessary for Railways?

In today’s era of Digital India, most of the people in the country book tickets online sitting at home instead of standing in long lines at the railway reservation counter. According to the latest data released by railway officials, About 88 percent of the total railway tickets in the country are now being booked through digital medium (IRCTC App/Website)..

The number of people going to reservation counters and buying physical tickets has continuously declined to just 12%. In such a situation, the speed and reliability of IRCTC’s digital infrastructure has become the biggest priority for the Railways to provide uninterrupted service to crores of passengers.
