Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has once again postponed the decision in the IRCTC money laundering case. Now the order on framing of charges in this much awaited case will be pronounced on June 9, 2026. Many prominent family members including former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav and Misa Bharti are accused in this case.

What is IRCTC scam? (Background of the case)

This disputed matter is from the year 2004 to 2009, when Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister in the UPA government. The main allegations of the investigating agencies are as follows:

• Rigging in hotel tender: Rules were ignored in the process of leasing two BNR hotels located at Ranchi and Puri under Indian Railways to private companies through IRCTC.

• Unfair profits and land deals: It is alleged that in exchange for awarding the contract to ‘Sujata Hotels Private Limited’, about three acres of valuable land in Patna was transferred to companies linked to the Lalu family at nominal rates.

• Market Price and Bargaining: CBI and ED claim that the market value of the land which was transferred from ‘Delight Marketing Limited’ to ‘Lara Projects’ for only Rs 65 lakh at that time was around Rs. Rs 94 crore Was.

Major claims of investigating agencies

• CBI’s stand: CBI alleges that the position of Railway Minister was misused to provide undue favors to Vinay Kochhar and Vijay Kochhar. The entire process was a well-planned corruption to gain personal benefits by using government influence.

• ED action: The Enforcement Directorate has filed a charge sheet in the money laundering case while investigating the properties and financial transactions of Lalu family. The court had admitted in the last hearing that this entire conspiracy of the tender scam was hatched with the knowledge of Lalu Yadav.

What will happen next now?

• Date of 9th June: The court has already completed the legal process of framing of charges. Now on June 9, the court will give the final order on this. If charges are framed, the case will formally begin trial.

• Legal path: After the charge sheet is filed in this case, legal problems may increase for other accused including Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav. This decision of the court is considered very important for the Lalu family from political and legal point of view.
