An IPS officer, who was on his way to take charge of his first posting in Karnataka’s Hassan district, died in a road accident, police said in a statement.
According to the police, 26-year-old Harshvardhan, an IPS officer of 2023 bench of Karnataka cadre, was a resident of Madhya Pradesh.
The accident happened on Sunday evening. The police vehicle collided with a roadside house and a tree after a tire burst near Kittani in Hassan taluk and the driver lost control, he said.
Vardhan was on his way to Hassan to report for duty as a probationary assistant superintendent at Holenarsipur.
A senior police officer said Vardhan suffered serious head injuries and died during treatment at the hospital. While driver Manjegowda suffered minor injuries.
The IPS officer recently completed four weeks of training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysore. The father of an IPS officer is a Sub Divisional Magistrate.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed condolences to the officer’s family. He wrote in a post on social media X that it was sad to hear the news of the death of probationary IPS officer Harsh Bardhan on the Hassan-Mysore Highway. It is very sad that this accident happened when he was going to take charge as an IPS officer.
