Like previous years, the final on May 29 in 74 matches between 10 teams will finally see the new champion team of the IPL.

17 day schedule released

This year, due to the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the country, only 17 days of IPL schedule was released, according to which the matches will be played only till April 7. BCCI will announce the rest of the schedule soon. This will be the second time that the IPL will be held in conjunction with the Lok Sabha elections in India. Earlier in 2009, IPL was played in South Africa because at that time IPL and Lok Sabha elections were held simultaneously.

There will be a colorful program in the inauguration ceremony

Today, before the inaugural match, there will be a colorful program at MA Chidambaram Stadium, in which Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, musician AR Rahman and singer Sonu Nigam will perform. Today the first match will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. This time, along with defending champions Chennai, Gujarat, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Delhi are in strong contention, while Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan and Hyderabad are hoping for unexpected success, take a look at the contentions of IPL franchises…

Chennai Super Kings

, Best performance: Five-time champion,

, Captain: Ruturaj Gaikwad,

In the 19-year history of IPL, this team has played 10 finals. The command of five-time champion and five-time runner-up Chennai has been handed over to Gaikwad. However, the team's confidence has increased due to the presence of a cool captain like Dhoni. The abundance of all-round players and the ability to counterattack in any situation strengthens Chennai's claim.

, Stars to watch: Dhoni, Rahane, Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Racine, Santner, Deepak Chahar, Deshpande, Shardul Thakur.

Gujarat Titans

• Best performance: One-time champion,

, Captain Shubman Gill.

The Gujarat team has played two finals within two years of entering the IPL. Hardik's absence will be missed by the team, but young captain Gill along with match-winners like Williamson, Miller and Rashid Khan can change the course of the match. Gujarat Titans team is also challenging for other teams due to their exceptional fight and mood to fight till the end.

, Stars to watch: Miller, Saha, Sai Sudarshan, Williamson, Wade, Tewatia, Sai Kishore, Noor Ahmed, Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav.

Mumbai Indians

• Best performance: Five-time champion,

• Captain: Hardik Pandya,

Fans are curious to see what changes come after the change of captaincy in the Mumbai team, which has played six IPL finals. The team captained by Hardik has an effective combination of young and experienced players. The poor performance of the bowlers was responsible for the team's failure last season, which is expected to improve.

, Stars to watch: Rohit, Kishan, Team Davidu, Suryakumar, Bavis, Nabi, Tilak Verma, Bumrah, Coetzee, Madhwal, Arjun Tendulkar.

Royal Challengers Bangalore

• Best performance: Runner-up three times,

, Captain: Du Plessis,

In the 16 years of IPL, the RCB team has reached the finals thrice, although it missed the title. Bowling is proving to be the weak link in the RCB team with great batsmen like Rohit, Du Plessis and Maxwell. A franchise that excels in individual performance suffers in teamwork. This time also he does not have any big name like Steiner.

, Stars to watch: Kohli, Siraj, D. Karthik, Green, Maxwell, Prabhudesai, Ferguson, A. Joseph, Karan Sharma, Tom Karan.

Lucknow Supergiants

• Best performance: Twice in playoffs,

• Captain: K.L. A male name,

The Lucknow team, which has entered the IPL for two years, has played in the playoffs twice. Consistency has been the biggest problem for the Lucknow team. Many times a batsman's flop show troubles the team. The team also expects big improvements in bowling and fielding. Along with the strong batting order, the bowlers are also showing new enthusiasm this time.

, Stars to watch: De Kock, Pooran, Badoni, Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Stoinis, Mayers, Willey, Shemar Joseph, Naveen Ul Haq, Bishnoi, Mavi and Amit Mishra.

Delhi Capitals

• Best Performance: Runner-up once,

, Captain: Rishabh Pant,

The team led by Pant, who is making a comeback after recovering from a horrific car accident, is all set to create history. Delhi team was troubled last year due to poor performance of the batsmen. Delhi will expect a decisive performance from the bowlers, especially the middle order. Which can play an important role in their victory.

, Stars to watch: Shai Hope, Shaw, Stubbs, Warner, Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Norway, J Richardson, Ishant.

Kolkata Knight Riders

• Best performance: Two-time champion,

, Captain: Shreyas Iyer,

Two-time champions Kolkata are hoping to end their nine-year title drought. The Kolkata team, which has been in 7th place for the last two seasons, needs further improvement especially in the performance of the bowlers. It remains to be seen how the Gambhir-Mayers duo will get the team out of the problem of lack of teamwork and continuity.

, Voyage to the Stars: Gurbaz, S. Bharat, Nitish Rana, Salt, Shepherd, Rinku Sindh, Vaiktesh Iyer, Narine, Russell, Mujeeb, Chameera, Starc, Chakraborty.

punjab kings

, Best Performance: Runner-up once,

, Captain: Shikhar Dhawan,

Punjab is hoping to enter the IPL final for the first time since 2014. Even after changing from Kings XI Punjab to Punjab Kings, there was not much improvement in the performance of the team. The lack of power hitters in the team and the failure of the bowlers to maintain big scores have been the two big problems. Teams often place special items based on individual performance.

, Stars to watch: Bairstow Rossouw, Sam Curran, Livingston, Woakes, Raza, Arshdeep, Rahul Chahar, Ellis, Harshal Patel and Rabada.

Rajasthan Royals

• Best performance: One-time champion,

, Captain: Sanju Samson,

It is expected that Rajasthan, which became the champion in the first season, will complete its last 15 years of trophy in this season. Under the leadership of Samson, the team is balanced and the presence of Dharkham batsmen, especially the deadly spinners, is a threat to the opposition batsmen. However, Australian Chinar Zampa will not play the entire season.

, Stars to watch: Butler, Hetmyer, Jaiswal, Parag, Powell, R. Ashwin, Avesh Khan, Bolt, Berger, Chahal, Saini.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

• Captain: Pat Cummins,

Fans are keeping an eye on whether World Cup-winning Australian captain Cummins proves lucky for the Hyderabad franchise or not. The first target of Hyderabad, which has been among the bottom teams for the last three seasons, is the playoffs. Strong batting has been the strong side of Hyderabad. Although the franchise has tried to overcome the weaknesses of the bowling seen so far, how effective it will be will be known in this season.

, Stars to watch: Head, Klaasen, Markram, Tripathi, Hasaranga, Johnson, Phillips, Sundar, Shahbaz, Cummins, Farooqui, B. Kumar, T. Natarajan, Umran Malik.

Each team will play one match against the teams of its group and two matches against the teams of the other group.

Under the unique format of IPL, a total of 10 teams have been divided into two groups based on their performance so far in IPL history, with each team getting to play a total of 14 league matches throughout the season. Each team will have to play one match each against the other four teams of its group and two matches each against the other five teams of the other group. In this way 14 matches of one team will be completed. After this the top four teams will enter the knockout. The winner of the match between the first and second seeded teams will advance to the final, while the loser will advance to Qualifier-2. An eliminator will be played between the third and fourth placed teams, with the loser being eliminated and the winner playing Qualifier-2. The team winning Qualifier-2 will enter the finals.
