IPL 2024: Sunil Narine made a special record, left Lasith Malinga behind

Kolkata, 30 April (HIST). Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Sunil Narine on Monday broke Lasith Malinga's record of taking most wickets at a particular venue in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Narine impressed with the ball during KKR's win over Delhi Capitals, taking 1 for 24 in his four-over spell. He took the wicket of Axar Patel in the first innings, which was his 69th wicket at the iconic Eden Gardens in the IPL, the most by a bowler at any particular position in the league. Before him, former Sri Lankan veteran fast bowler Lasith Malinga had made this record by taking 68 wickets at Wankhede while representing Mumbai Indians.

Experienced spinner Amit Mishra is at third position in Delhi with 58 wickets. Former Royal Challengers Bangalore star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is in fourth place with 52 wickets in Bengaluru. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh is at fifth position with 49 wickets at Wankhede.

Talking about the match, in this match Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bat first. However, his decision proved wrong and Delhi team could score only 153 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav scored the highest unbeaten 35 runs for Delhi. Apart from Kuldeep, Pant scored 27 runs.

For KKR, Varun Chakraborty took 3 wickets for 16 runs in 4 overs. Apart from Varun, Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana took 2-2 wickets and Sunil Narine, Mitchell Starc took 1-1 wicket.

In reply, KKR won the match by scoring 157 runs at the loss of 3 wickets in 16.3 overs, thanks to the half-century of Phil Salt (68) and the innings of captain Shreyas Iyer (33 not out) and Venkatesh Iyer (23).

For Delhi, Akshar Patel took 2 wickets and Kuldeep Yadav took 1 wicket.

With this win, KKR has now moved to the second position in the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points, while Delhi is at the sixth position with 12 points.
