IPL 2024: KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad fined Rs 12 lakh each

Lucknow, 20 April (HS). During the 34th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, 12-12 penalties were imposed on the captains of both the teams due to slow over rate. A fine of Rs lakh has been imposed.

The league said in a statement issued late on Friday night, “Lucknow Super Giants were injured after their team maintained a slow over-rate during the 34th match of IPL 2024 against Chennai Super Kings at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Captain KL Rahul has been fined. “Since this was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rahul was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

The statement further read, “Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined after maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Lucknow Super Giants. “Since this was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Gaikwad was fined Rs 12 lakh.”

Talking about the match, in this match Chennai Super Kings (CSK), batting first, scored 176 runs in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja played a brilliant unbeaten half-century for CSK. He scored unbeaten 57 runs on 40 balls with the help of 5 fours and 1 six. Apart from Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane (36 runs from 24 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) and Moeen Ali (30 runs from 20 balls, 3 sixes) also played important innings. In the end, former captain and wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored a quick 28 runs in 9 balls, which included three fours and 2 sixes.

For Lucknow, Krunal Pandya took 2 wickets, Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stynis took 1 wicket each.

In reply, Lucknow achieved the target at the loss of 2 wickets in 19 overs thanks to the brilliant half-centuries of opener Quinton T Kock (54) and captain KL Rahul (82). Mustafizur Rahman and Mathisa Pathirana took 1 wicket each for CSK.
