Kampala, 24 October (Hindustan Reporter). International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach has lauded the Ugandan President for his contribution to the development of sports by presenting him a medal. Bach presented the honorary gold medal to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni during his visit to the State House in Entebbe on Wednesday.

The IOC President thanked the Ugandan Government under Museveni for always supporting sports, as evidenced by the many medals won by the country on the international stage, including the Olympics.

Museveni, joined by his wife and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataka Museveni, pledged that the government would provide land for the construction of the new Uganda Olympic Committee headquarters.

Earlier, IOC President Bach also met Ugandan Prime Minister Robina Ngbanja, who made it clear that the government will always support sports as it contributes greatly to the country in terms of nation building.

Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) President Donald Rukare told Xinhua that he is very grateful that President Museveni has pledged to make land available for the construction of the new UOC headquarters.

“The old headquarters has been in Lugogo for many years, and a new home is our dream,” Rukare said.

Bach's visit to Uganda came as part of his wider tour of African countries, which included Senegal, South Africa, Lesotho, Uganda and Rwanda.
