Investor wealth hits new high of Rs 426.95 lakh crore

Mumbai: On the global front, Sensex, Nifty based funds continued to remain cautious on the uptrend in Indian stock markets today due to the impact of softening in Euro and European stocks due to political instability in France. Of course, with the onset of monsoon on time and expectations of better than normal rains this year, investors' wealth has been boosted by a broad rally by local funds and players in small, mid-cap, capital goods, oil-gas, auto stocks. Stocks i.e. investors' wealth (total market capitalization of listed companies) in BSE today rose by Rs 1.72 lakh crore to a new historical high of Rs 426.945 lakh crore. Which was earlier seen at a high of Rs 425.91 lakh crore on June 3, 2024 after the exit polls of the Lok Sabha elections.

Banking stocks rise

The Sensex-Nifty based stocks included Larsen & Toubro, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, UltraTech Cement, Tata Motors, HCL Technology, NTPC, Bajaj Finance, banking stocks Kotak Mahindra Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank as well as ITC, Sun Pharma. After swinging between 76860.53 and 76296.44 in a two-way fluctuation led by selling in Reliance Industries, the Sensex closed 33.49 points lower at 76456.59. While the Nifty 50 spot bounced between 23389.45 to 23206.65 and finally closed 5.65 points higher at 23264.85.

Capital goods index increased

Funds continued to buy capital goods stocks heavily today. V-Guard rose Rs 8.70 to Rs 403.55, Suzlon Rs 48.26, Larsen & Toubro Rs 58.20 to Rs 3600.35, Bharat Forge Rs 25 to Rs 1605.55, Carborundum Rs 21.20 to Rs 3600.35, BSE Capital Goods index rose 957.84 points to close at 69810.96.

Attraction in oil and gas stocks

Funds preferred buying in oil & gas stocks today due to fall in international crude oil prices. Linde India rose by Rs 558.60 to Rs 9000, ONGC rose by Rs 14.50 to Rs 273.60, Petronet LNG rose by Rs 12.60 to Rs 315.15, GAIL rose by Rs 4.75 to Rs 212, IOC rose by Rs 2.45 to Rs 167.70, BPCL rose by Rs 4.85 to Rs 607.30, HPCL rose by Rs 2.70 to Rs 524.40. BSE Oil & Gas Index rose by 525.39 points to close at 29062.71.

Auto index rose

Funds continued selective buying in automobile stocks today. Ashok Leyland rose Rs 6.60 to Rs 238, Maruti Suzuki rose Rs 144.95 to Rs 12,848.15, Bajaj Auto rose Rs 100.30 to Rs 9828.75, Hero Motocorp rose Rs 53.35 to Rs 5772.15. Mahindra rose Rs 26 to Rs 2833.80. BSE Auto index rose 505.69 points to close at 57105.07.

PSU stocks rise

Funds bought shares of PSU, railway, housing PSU companies today. NBCC India rose by Rs 13.65 to Rs 156.55, Aircon International rose by Rs 20.40 to Rs 272, Engineers India rose by Rs 16.65 to Rs 246.50, Oil India rose by Rs 41.40 to Rs 646.75, Container Corporation rose by Rs 33.40 to Rs 1087.95.

Small cap, mid cap indices rose

Market breadth remained positive today with stable funds players maintaining their allure in small, mid-cap, cash stocks. BSE Small Cap index closed 467.58 points higher at 49700, BSE Mid Cap index closed 327.49 points higher at 44683.83. Out of 3969 stocks traded on BSE today, 2461 stocks closed positive and 1402 stocks closed negative.

FII sold shares worth Rs 111 crore

On Tuesday, FIIs sold shares worth Rs 111.04 crore in cash. While DII-domestic institutional investors made net purchases of Rs 3193.29 crore in cash today.
